Capita Consulting’s Financial Services practice has announced ambitious plans to target the general insurance market, as part of its wider strategy to double the size of the business over the next two years.

Capita has acquired the health and government consulting businesses of the Tribal Group. The acquisition adds key new capabilities to Capita’s consulting business.

The businesses are subsidiaries of The Tribal Group, a leading provider of solutions to the public sector. The government business provides advisory, service delivery and technical support across central and local government, including support for environmental, home and foreign policy, and services for public housing, policing, agribusiness and devolved administrations.

The acquisition adds further depth and breadth of expertise to Capita’s existing services for the local and central government markets which include: administering the Teachers’ Pension Scheme; providing the IT infrastructure and administration for the Criminal Records Bureau; management of the TV license scheme for the BBC; Service Birmingham, Capita’s joint venture with Birmingham City Council to provide the council’s ICT and contact centre services and Capita’s partnership with Sheffield City Council.

Commenting on the deal, Mark Wylie, Managing Director for Capita Consulting said: “This acquisition transforms our position in the market and marks a huge opportunity for growth. Tribal’s expertise in helping to improve the delivery of public services complements our own ambitions and will strengthen our proposition for service delivery and technical support across central and local government.”
